What We Offer...

Good nutrition plays an important role in the health of young children. Through CFO’s participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), we offer affordable healthy meals and snacks to children while they are in our centers or in the homes of child care providers whom we sponsor. This makes child care more affordable for parents and subsidizes child care providers for the costs of meals and snacks. Parents are assured that child care providers participating in the program are meeting stringent standards around food safety and nutrition quality.
home-based programs
The Child and Adult Care Food Program is an easy to use program that makes it affordable for family child care providers to provide nutritious foods for the children in your child care setting. The CACFP is a free program, available to all licensed home child care providers and qualified legal/exempt providers.
We are sponsors of the program to family child care providers providing care to children in their homes in Hancock, Washington and Waldo counties. We employ a knowledgeable outreach worker who visits providers’ homes at least three times a year to observe meal time, provide nutrition education to providers and offer food safety and buying tips. She also reviews menus of the food provided to children to assure that meals are nutritious and meet the standards of the CACFP.
Providers are reimbursed at the maximum allowed rate for up to two meals/one snack (or two snacks/one meal) per child in attendance each day. As your sponsoring agency, CFO can provide you with:
- sample menus and recipes;
- computerized ‘menus’ printed with your children’s names each month;
- Access to a resource library which includes books, magazines, and videos on a wide range of child care and parenting topics;
- Reimbursements handled by a dependable, professional staff;
- Support, training and technical assistance from our CACFP Outreach Worker

center-based programs
Nutritious meals are offered free of charge to all children enrolled in Child and Family Opportunities' center based programs in part due to USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program. In return for serving meals that meet or exceed the nutritional requirements set forth by the USDA our agency receives reimbursement based on income levels of the children served.
