Jonesport Elementary School Collaboration
Date: 9/24/2009
Jonesport - Child and Family Opportunities, Inc.(CFO) and the Jonesport Elementary School have joined forces to offer comprehensive early childhood education services to area children who turn 4-years-old by Oct. 15. Services are offered throughout the school year five mornings a week from 7:30 a.m.- 11 a.m. “We are excited to be working together to deliver comprehensive Pre-K services to area 4 year olds. This will allow children and their parents the opportunity to join the public school family a year early, and to also continue to have the wonderful services offered through Head Start,” Colleen Haskell, Union 103 Superintendent said.
Using the Maine Start Early Learning Guidelines and Head Start Performance Standards as guides, the classroom supports a kindergarten readiness program that is developmentally appropriate for this age. CFO, founded in 1970, has offered Head Start and Child Care services in Jonesport for 20 years. With the development of this new partnership, CFO’s Moose-a-bec Early Care and Education Center on Main Street will be closing at the end of the month due to under-enrollment.
Jeanna Woodward is the Certified Public Pre-K teacher in the classroom and is joined by Education Technician and Head Start Teacher Rebecca Libby. For more information about enrollment, interested parents may call Sarah Jordan, CFO’s Enrollment manager, who is handling enrollment for the joint program.
